Snowstorms and Air Conditioners

March 17, 2016

We haven’t completely made it through winter in Naples just yet. Mother Nature may have a few nice days, but she’s always ready to remind us that she’s in full control. So when she does finally let up and it starts to warm up, read below so you won’t want to have to unexpectedly call a repairman out out for air conditioner service.

Heavy snowfall could bury your air conditioner in the snow, hurting its performance when the temperatures start to warm up for the season. Not to mention it can keep a high-efficiency system from running as such. The situation could become an even greater problem too if you don’t prep for it with an annual air conditioner service appointment.

There are steps you can take as a homeowner to help your air conditioner run as it should even though snow has fallen or could fall in the upcoming days and weeks.

  1. Keep a 3-foot/1-meter clearance around your air conditioner. Inspect the area routinely to be sure that it stays clear and that there are no snow drifts or piles of debris that may have accumulated throughout the winter.
  2. Contrary to what you may think, placing a cover over your air conditioner may end up doing more damage than you’d expect. A covered air conditioner may be inviting for rodents looking for shelter from the weather and start to call it home, possibly meaning damage to the system as they roam about.

While the weather in Naples will more than likely go up and down over the last few days of colder temperatures, you can’t count out the chance of weather that can impact the performance of your air conditioner. At CNR Air Conditioning Inc in Naples, we are always available to check any areas around your home or answer any of your questions, whether they’re about air conditioner service or buying a new system.
