Three Tips to Keep Your Naples Home Comfortable During the Winter Months

November 24, 2015

The plummeting temperatures in Naples aren’t going anywhere, and while it’s easy to fantasize about the warmer temperatures, it’s critical to remember that you can remain just as comfortable during winter. Of course, your furnace plays a huge role in this, which is why it’s so crucial to keep up with annual furnace service.

We do have to mention that there aren’t many things that will offer as much to your comfort this winter as a well-tuned furnace. That’s why furnace service should be done annually. After all, who wants to spend a frigid winter not knowing if their furnace is going to keep them comfortable the entire season?

Already done with your annual furnace service? Here are a handful of other tasks you can do to help keep your home comfortable:

  • Energy audit — many energy companies will provide an energy audit for your home so you can identify areas that need fixed. You could be surprised what areas are allowing hot or cold air to escape.
  • Weatherstripping — regardless of the door, doors allow the opportunity for a lot of cold air to get in to your home. However, when your door is shut, you could still have air making its way indoors. Check to see if your weatherstripping is in working-order or if it’s worn, torn, or damaged in any other way that could be permitting cold air inside. If you find any issues, weatherstripping is basic to replace and can take care of the problem.
  • Recessed lighting — one of the most common culprits for air leaks may be your recessed lighting. Depending on the age of your lights, they may be letting all the hot air in your home escape through your ceiling. Fixing this is as simple as sealing it with caulk or aluminum tape.

These handful tips are just a place to start, but do recognize that there are other easy fixes you can handle once you’ve had annual furnace service completed. Many of them can be cost-effective and easy jobs to do on the weekend.
