How to Keep Your Air Conditioner Running Well Through the Fall

August 24, 2016

Your air conditioner has put in a lot of work this summer and we still have some more heat coming. Just because the date on the calendar has changed over to fall doesn’t mean you’re done with your AC for the season. Staying on top of annual AC maintenance, while also following a handful of other tricks, can help you maintain your air conditioner while staying cozy too.

Clean Around Your Outdoor Unit

Debris can accumulate around your outside unit, especially during the fall. When the time comes to rake up the leaves in your yard, make sure to rake up the leaves and debris around your air conditioner. Debris can impact air flow, causing your system to work harder and wear down sooner. We want your air conditioner to last as long as it can.

Raise the Temperature on Your Thermostat

Set your thermostat at the highest temperature you can while still staying comfortable. Whenever possible, take advantage of additional cooling methods such as fans. The lower you set your thermostat, the harder your system will have to work to attain that temperature. You may think shutting off your unit completely will save on energy and help your system, but that creates more work for it to make up when you flip it back on. It will have to work harder for a longer amount of time, which is another thing that could lead to early system failure.

Keep Up With AC Maintenance

Keeping a well-maintained system with routine, annual AC maintenance is so critical. Our technicians will look at your air conditioner thoroughly and ensure the electric is working as it should, the coils and filters are clean and so much more. We take an in-depth look to catch small problems before they become big breakdowns and turn in to an AC repair appointment.
